The debate around ‘is social media good or bad ' is as old as the chicken and the egg. However, it is of utmost importance in today’s day and age, and we can no longer ignore the digital revolution’s contribution to our lives. With everything from social interactions to work and even education being online, social media and the internet are playing a bigger part than ever before.
We’re bombarded with content on a daily basis and it leaves a lasting impression on our psyche. We are being molded by media giants who try and push their respective agendas. We have come to a point where we second guess all our choices and think about how other people will perceive them while feeling the constant need to look perfect, to take the most aesthetic pictures, put on a show off the happiest, fulfilled version of ourselves.
Now more than ever, it is important to remember that that’s not necessary. Post whatever you want, don’t compare yourself to the airbrushed pictures of models or the lavish lives some people portray. You do you and do it well.
Instead of feeling bad about yourself, find joy in other people’s happiness. Be inspired, not demotivated. Follow people who make you feel good about yourself and who spread joy in the world.
The internet is a beautiful treasure chest of knowledge, entertainment, and information, and should be used for just that. To connect with people all over the world and to have a community of sorts. To grow and learn together, instead of tearing people down.
Stop comparing, start living
