Anxiety is our body's natural response to stress. It causes a feeling of impending doom and sometimes breathlessness. One can feel anxiety before a big job interview, before an exam, during a fight with a loved one or in any such situation that makes a person feel uneasy and stressed.

Here are a few ways to help you when you're faced with your triggers:

  1. Deep breaths

When you’re facing a bout of intense anxiety, breathing in through your nose and exhaling from your mouth helps lower your rising heartbeat and helps you focus on your immediate surroundings and get out of your head.

  1. Exercise

Exercise is one of the most important ways to reduce stress. Exercising releases endorphins, which are chemicals that act as mood boosters. It also helps you build your confidence and self esteem.

  1. Reduce caffeine intake

Caffeine is a chemical found in coffee and energy drinks which can increase anxiety. It can cause jitteriness and unease. As a result, caffeine should be consumed in moderation.

  1. Get enough sleep

Sleep is another extremely important way to reduce anxiety. When you get a full 7-9 hours of sleep, it improves your overall lifestyle and reduces your ability to get stressed and anxious about small issues.

  1. Spend time with loved ones.

When faced with an increase in anxiety, special time with family, friends or even your pets provides not only a distraction, but also a reminder that you are not alone.
