Simone Biles's withdrawal from a few of her competitions at the Tokyo Olympics 2021 has inspired all of us to give our mental health the immense respect it deserves.
During a press conference, Simone Biles said she withdrew from the competition because the pressure had become too much. Gymnastics is a sport where mental balance is as important as physical balance, without proper mental space, it would have been highly dangerous for her to compete. It takes a lot of courage to participate in the Olympics but, it probably took even more to make the right decision for herself and normalize talking about mental health on a public platform. She has been nothing but fearless for speaking out, emphasizing the importance of mental health, and reiterating that it is okay to take a break when you need to look after yourself.
We want everyone to be inspired by this instance in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 and prioritize your mental well-being. This shift in the stigmatization of mental health is a refreshing and long awaited.
Even though many of us might be pro-mental health, it is easy for us to disregard our own mental health issues. Don't do that to yourself. Give your mental struggles the same importance that you'd give to someone else's. You are the most important person in your life, and we want you to take care of yourself.
So don’t be afraid to put yourself first and live aastey!
